Netflix has ordered a second season of Lock Upp: Sach Yaa Sazaa. Deadline reported the renewal — a recommission, meaning the programme gets another run — on 30 September. It keeps the captive reality series on Netflix after a first season that climbed quickly.

The climb was fast. Season one reached No. 1 on Netflix's TV shows list within two days of premiere. It then stayed in the top 10 for seven straight weeks. Deadline put viewing at 50 million hours in a month, a hours-viewed figure that counts total time spent watching.

Lock Upp is an Indian reality competition about celebrities seeking redemption after public scandal, according to Tudum. Fifteen contestants live together in a new-age prison. A game of power and redemption decides who stays and who goes, Netflix says in its listing. Tasks, votes and evictions drive the order of exit.

The Netflix version premiered on 27 June and streams exclusively on the platform, Netflix said in a programme announcement. Episodes were released Saturday through Wednesday. The schedule grew during the run from five weekly episodes to six to meet demand, according to Deadline. That puts about three months between premiere and renewal news. The extra episode meant viewers got another night each week.

Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan will return as hosts for season two. Balaji Telefilms is producing the new season. Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor and Manisha Sharma are named as producers, with Malaya Pradhan as showrunner, the person who organises creative decisions day to day. Monika Shergill is vice-president of content at Netflix India.

This is not the show's first life. It originally launched on ALTBalaji and MX Player in 2022. Netflix then rebooted it under the full title Lock Upp: Sach Yaa Sazaa. The new version kept the prison set-up and the redemption hook.

What makes this stand out is the speed of the response. A No. 1 in two days, seven weeks in the top 10 and an added weekly episode pointed to demand. Netflix answered by keeping the format in place.

For fans, this means more of the same structure. Same hosts. Same closed house and weekly cuts. The prison doors will open again.
