Netflix renews YA rowing drama Crew Girl for second season

Netflix has renewed Crew Girl for a second season. The order keeps the YA drama on the streamer after its first run this month. Miku Martineau leads the cast as Teagan, in a series written by Vivian Lin, according to Deadline.

Teagan Tao is 16. She is a rower who becomes coxswain of a dysfunctional all-boys rowing team at an elite East Coast prep school. The coxswain steers the boat and calls the race plan. That seat puts her in charge of a crew that is not ready for her.

Martineau plays Teagan Tao. Jessica Paré plays Ella, Teagan's mother. Samuel Braun plays Josh Regis, Kyle Clark plays Cam Dillinger and Thomas Cadrot plays Coach Hayden.

Lin is creator on the show and serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner, the person in day-to-day charge of a series. Jeff Norton, Lindsay Macadam, Hillary Zwick Turner, Tony Chung and Lori Massini are also executive producers. The series is produced by Great Pacific Media, the scripted and unscripted live-action division of Thunderbird Entertainment.

Season one is an eight-episode run that arrived on Netflix on 10 September, as reported by Deadline. Netflix first gave the project a series greenlight as a coming-of-age teen drama. Lin previously worked on Skymed and The Lake. The story is set in the world of high school rowing, according to Netflix Tudum.

For fans, this means Teagan's season with the boys' boat is not a one-off. A second season gives the writers' room another run to finish the story it started on the water.
