Tom Cruise praises Prince and Princess of Wales after Digger premiere

Tom Cruise says the Prince of Wales made a "smart choice" in marriage.
Speaking to Extra TV after meeting the Prince and Princess of Wales at the global premiere of Digger, the actor praised the couple in warm terms, as reported by HELLO! Magazine. The interview followed their night out together in London. His verdict was blunt.
"I have so much respect for them, they are amazing people," Cruise said. He described the Princess of Wales as having "an incredible sense of humour, very intelligent and fun." He added that Prince William "did well" choosing her as a partner.
Looked straight to camera, he went further. "Will, way to go, smart choice. Got to give it to William, way to go," he said. Then he drew a line. Asked about what they talk about in private, he answered: "We have private conversations, we talk about things that are between us."
The meeting took place at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square, London, on 22 September 2026. That is where the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the global premiere of Digger, the first full public screening with cast and guests. Cruise said the couple found the film "funny." On the night, he took the Princess's hand to help her down the stairs at the venue.
The Princess wore a jewel-toned purple Jenny Packham gown for the occasion. Jenny Packham is a British designer whose evening dresses she has worn often for red-carpet events. She paired the dress with the Queen Mother's Amethyst Sautoir Necklace, a long jewelled necklace, and drop earrings once worn by Princess Diana.
It is not their first red-carpet encounter. Cruise had previously given Prince William an advance screening of Top Gun: Maverick, a detail he revealed to ET at that film's UK premiere in May 2022, according to ET Online. William attended that premiere with Kate, where Cruise greeted them both and held Kate's hand to escort her. The actor and the Prince later posed together at a charity gala in February 2024.
What makes this stand out is the familiarity. Four years apart, two premieres, the same easy manners on the steps. No formal statement from Kensington Palace, just an actor happy to talk about people he clearly likes.
