Pearl Abyss has delayed Charting the Unknown, the first post-launch add-on for Crimson Desert, by two weeks. The downloadable content, extra material sold separately after launch, was due for release on 15 October and will now arrive for release on 29 October. The new date was confirmed on 30 September in an official notice titled 'Charting the Unknown: Release Date Update' Pearl Abyss. That is a shift of 14 days.

Pearl Abyss said it needed additional development time to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience. In plain terms, more time to fix bugs and smooth performance before players arrive. The studio apologised for the longer wait and said it will use the extra time to further refine the content, with the revised date listed as 29 October GMT/PT Eurogamer.

The add-on sails beyond the known map. It brings new destinations to the continent of Pywel, the setting for the main game. Players will be able to explore the ocean through ships and underwater adventures. The sea becomes part of the journey, both above the waves and below them.

The voyage centres on new islands off the coast of Pywel. Those islands bring new stories featuring Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. Three names to learn. Three threads to follow once the ship leaves harbour.

There is more to the add-on than exploration. It includes an upgraded house-building mechanic, which lets players design and improve their own home. Players can also manage and rent facilities to earn cash, adding a small business alongside the adventure.

It also adds a system that lets players grow bonds with NPCs, computer-controlled characters who fill towns and quests. Talk to them. Spend time with them. The relationships develop over the course of the story.

For players, this means a short pause before a busy voyage. Two weeks is not long. The list of things to do on arrival looks full.

Charting the Unknown is priced at £19.99 / US$24.99. It will be available for all versions of the game except the Mac App Store version. Pearl Abyss said on 3 September that pre-orders for the add-on would open soon Pearl Abyss.
