HBO Max is developing an untitled drama about Tor, a remote mountain community in Spain linked to three unsolved murders. The project is in development, meaning it is being worked on but has not yet been ordered to series. No cast, episode count or release date has been announced.

The drama is created by Fran Araújo and Eduard Sola through their company Suma Content, in collaboration with journalist Carles Porta and Luminol Media, Deadline reported. Araújo wrote Anatomy and Sola wrote Querer, according to Variety. Both creators are Goya winners, the Goyas being Spain’s national film awards.

Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi are attached as executive producers, a credit that puts them in charge of guiding the series creatively and financially. HBO Max unveiled the drama as a series involving the pair and created by Araújo and Sola. Development keeps it at an early stage, before any decision on production.

Porta already knows this story well. He made Tor, a Spanish docuseries released in 2024 that explored the same community and case. That show used real people and archive. This new project is planned as scripted drama, meaning actors will play written roles.

The announcement also connects the series to Calvo and Ambrossi’s recent film work. They directed La Bola Negra, which stars Guitarricadelafuente, Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. The film won an award at Cannes, was nominated for the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top prize, and has been selected as Spain’s Oscar entry, meaning it is put forward to represent the country.

The commission sits with Guillermo Farré, HBO Max’s head of local original production. Local originals are shows made in a particular country for home viewers and the wider platform. Farré replaced José María Caro as the streamer’s originals chief.

For viewers, this means a documented true-crime case is being reworked for drama. The move gives a crew and writers’ room a possible next job, but only if the development moves to a full order. For now, the Tor story has a team, a home and no transmission slot.
