Valve's Deadlock has set a new player record. The game reached 228,086 concurrent players, or people playing at the same time, on 29 September 2026. That is the largest figure in its history. Eurogamer

The surge followed the City Never Sleeps update. Deadlock climbed into Steam's most-played rankings after the release, and then reached the top of the chart. IGN

Deadlock is a PC multiplayer hero shooter from Valve. It mixes heroes, playable characters with distinct abilities, with the lane-based team battles of a MOBA, a genre built around pushing lanes to destroy the enemy base. Polygon It has not been fully released and had no release date at the time of reporting. Access still requires an invite code gifted by someone who already has access.

City Never Sleeps is a broad overhaul. It added six new heroes. It also rebuilt the map, which is named The Cursed Apple and takes inspiration from New York.

The three lanes now have New York-flavoured names. The central blue lane is Broadway. The green lane is Greenwich. The yellow lane is York.

Valve also more than doubled the game's character interaction lines. The update included HUD updates, a visual update to neutrals, computer-controlled creatures that players can fight for extra resources, plus accessibility options and quality-of-life additions. Steam

What makes this stand out is the timing. Deadlock is still invite-only and unreleased, yet it is pulling mainstream numbers on Steam. For fans, this means longer queues, fuller matches and a much louder test phase before Valve names a launch date.
