Pete Davidson has spoken in detail about his relationship with Kim Kardashian and the online attacks that followed from her former husband Ye.

The comments came in a Variety cover story published on Sept. 30, as reported by Billboard. He addressed both the nine-month romance and the backlash that surrounded it.

Davidson, 32, is a former Saturday Night Live cast member. His relationship with Kardashian was her first public relationship after she filed for divorce from Ye in 2021. It lasted nine months and ended around August 2022.

In 2022, Ye posted a series of incendiary social media statements aimed at Davidson, whom he nicknamed “Skete”. He also released a video for his song “Eazy” that depicted Davidson’s decapitation. At the time Kardashian was reported to be furious about the violent video, and she later said she felt “so sad and sorry” for Davidson, according to People.

Davidson said the targeting left him feeling as if Ye was telling him to “Kill yourself”. “He did push me,” he said. He spoke about Ye having lost a parent and living with mental health struggles. Davidson’s own father, a firefighter, died on 9/11.

Despite what happened, Davidson said he feels empathy for Ye. He also rejected the idea that Ye’s subsequent antisemitic behaviour was caused by the fact that Davidson is half-Jewish.

On Kardashian, Davidson said she was respectful during their time together. The pressure around the relationship was hard to live with. Being followed everywhere and living with security felt like too much at a time when he was dealing with mental health and drug problems.

He joked that he “got that one out of the way for her” and “cleared the path for her to get back into the dating pool”. Kardashian has previously described the romance in similar terms of speed. She said she “jumped” into the relationship after her split and that it “got my mind away” from her divorce, later calling it “fast” and expressing regret, according to People.

Davidson had known both Kardashian and Ye before the relationship began. In 2019, he spent time with the then-couple at a birthday celebration for Kid Cudi.

What makes this account stand out is its tone. Davidson does not call for a response. He describes a difficult period, a step back, and goodwill toward both people.
