Arsenal threw away a late lead to draw 2-2 away at Paris FC in the Women's Champions League on 30 September 2026.

A miscommunication between goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez and England captain Leah Williamson gifted the French side their late equaliser, according to BBC Sport. Arsenal had looked set to leave Paris with all three points. Instead they left with one.

The league-phase tie kicked off at 5:45pm BST, as reported by The Guardian. It was played at Stade Jean Bouin in Paris, Paris FC's listed home for the European tie. Arsenal were the visitors.

Alessia Russo gave Arsenal the lead late in the first half. The goal carried a milestone. It made her the second-highest English scorer in Women's Champions League history, now one goal behind Fran Kirby's tally, according to Arsenal. For a striker, timing matters. Russo timed this one perfectly.

The game was part of the league phase, the opening stage of the competition where clubs play a series of fixtures to decide who reaches the knockouts. This season's league phase features 18 teams and kicked off on 22 September 2026. It will end with the final in Warsaw in May 2027.

There was history here. Paris FC have knocked Arsenal out of this competition before. Arsenal had beaten them 1-0 in pre-season, with Olivia Smith striking in the 91st minute at the Mangata Developments Stadium in Borehamwood. That counted for little in Paris.

Rodriguez started in goal again. The new recruit had played Arsenal's first three games of the season. Williamson, alongside her, wore the armband as England captain as well as a senior Arsenal defender.

For fans, this one will sting a little. A European away win in France is never simple. To lead so late and then switch off hurts.

Arsenal move on with a point. Paris FC move on with momentum. In a short league phase, every dropped point counts.
