Sony Pictures has promoted Maia Eyre to executive vice president of Creative Development at Columbia Pictures, Deadline reported on 30 September 2026.

Eyre will report to Peter Kang, president of production at Columbia Pictures. The post puts her in charge of finding and shaping films for Sony's flagship live-action label. She steps up from senior vice president of Creative Development, a role she has held since April 2024.

Her rise has been tied to Sydney Sweeney. Eyre brought Sweeney and her production company Honey Trap to Sony for a producing deal, according to Deadline. She also brought in the romantic comedy Anyone But You, which paired Sweeney with Glen Powell and has grossed $214 million in US dollars worldwide.

Short holds matter in this job. Anyone But You kept selling tickets well after its opening weekend. That long run helped turn a modestly budgeted romance into one of Sony's most profitable recent releases.

Eyre also steered Anaconda, the comedy starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd, which has grossed $135 million in US dollars worldwide, Deadline reported. The film revived a creature-feature title from the 1990s as a broad studio comedy.

What makes this stand out is the slate she now carries forward. Eyre is shepherding Hollow, a retelling of the Sleepy Hollow tale, with Sweeney and Belmont Cameli attached to star. She is also overseeing Fake Skating, an adaptation of the young adult novel by Lynn Painter.

Fake Skating will star Amélie Hoeferle and Graham Campbell. It is being produced by Will Gluck's Olive Bridge, and will be the first Painter book to reach the screen, according to Deadline.

Eyre is originally from Canada. She moved to Los Angeles in 2013 to attend the MFA Producer's Program at UCLA, then began her career at Sony Pictures after interning at TriStar Pictures, its sister label.
