Netflix Spain adds monthly Filmin picks, starting with 'October Mysteries'

Netflix members in Spain will now find films chosen by a rival streamer on their home screens.
The global platform has partnered with Spanish streamer Filmin to offer a monthly set of films and documentaries selected by Filmin's editorial team, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The picks will live inside Netflix. No second app is needed.
A fresh group of 10 titles, licensed from and chosen by Filmin, will arrive on the first day of every month. Licensed means Netflix rents the streaming rights for a limited run, rather than owning the films outright. Each set then stays available for a second month after its debut month. That rolling pattern gives viewers time to catch up.
Ten titles a month. Two months to watch.
The first shelf is already live. Called 'October Mysteries', it opened in its own section on Netflix Spain on Thursday, 1 October. It is ten titles strong. It includes David Cronenberg's The Shrouds alongside Late Night with the Devil from Colin and Cameron Cairnes.
Diego Ávalos, Netflix's vice president of content for Spain, Portugal and Turkey, welcomed the tie-up. He said Netflix deeply admires Filmin's commitment to film and documentaries. He added that Filmin has built a close relationship with a discerning, specialised audience, while Netflix focuses on entertaining the world's largest and most diverse audience. The two services, he said, are perfect partners to offer more films and documentaries handpicked by Filmin's team.
Filmin brings a distinct identity to the deal. The Barcelona-based subscription streaming service is known for independent films, features made outside the major studio system. It was founded by chief executive Juan Carlos Tous, who still leads the company. Its editorial team, the in-house programmers who choose what to spotlight, will curate each Netflix selection.
For viewers in Spain, this means a simple change to the browse. Instead of switching between subscriptions, they can sample Filmin's taste from inside their existing Netflix account. A new ten arrives with each calendar month, while the previous ten remains in place for a little longer.
