Shaka iLembe to end with Season 3 as Studiocanal prepares global launch

The last chapter of Shaka iLembe is coming into view. Studiocanal has released first-look images from Season 3, the final season of the isiZulu-language drama.
The series will be introduced to international buyers at MIPCOM Cannes, the television market in Cannes where distributors sell new shows territory by territory, under the title Shaka iLembe: Zulu King. Studiocanal is making the title a priority launch at the market, according to Deadline.
In Africa, the season will air on Mzansi Magic, the channel owned by MultiChoice. It is scheduled to premiere in 2026. Bomb Productions produces the series, with Angus Gibson as director.
Lemogang Tsipa returns as King Shaka kaSenzangakhona. Nomzamo Mbatha returns as his mother, Queen Nandi, and also serves as an executive producer.
The story jumps forward. Season 3 picks up four years after the events of Season 2, as British expansion presses closer and European influence grows around Shaka's kingdom.
The map gets wider too. The new season expands beyond the Zulu court to the Basotho Kingdom of Moshoeshoe, King Faku's Mpondo Kingdom and the settlement of Port Natal.
There are new faces in the ensemble. Lerato Mvelase joins the cast as Queen Mpikase. Aiden Scott plays Henry Francis Fynn, a British trader, with Conrad Kemp as Lt. Francis Farewell and Wonder Ndlovu as Prince Mpande.
The production carries weight. It has been described as South Africa's most expensive drama television production and as MultiChoice's highest-rated original, according to Deadline. The series won 12 SAFTAs, the South African Film and Television Awards, including Best Drama Series. That was reported as the most wins by a drama series in a single year.
For fans, this means a bigger canvas for the ending. More courts. More arrivals from outside. Less room for Shaka to manoeuvre.
The international push follows corporate change. Canal+, the French pay-TV group that owns Studiocanal, acquired MultiChoice in a multi-billion dollar deal. Anna Marsh is chief executive of Studiocanal and chief content officer of Canal+. Studiocanal is now prioritising the MultiChoice catalogue for global sales.
