NBC has released the first trailer for Newlyweds, its new comedy starring real-life married couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly. The series premieres Friday, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC. The trailer launch was reported by Deadline, with the time slot listed by NBC.

Leoni plays Jeanie. Daly plays James. She is free-spirited. He is buttoned-up. The series is a later-in-life love story about two people who marry after a whirlwind courtship. That fast decision drives the humour as two very different personalities try to organise one shared life and manage each other's habits, families and behaviour.

The series was co-created by Gail Lerner and Jamie Lee Curtis. Lerner serves as showrunner, meaning the person who leads the writers and oversees day-to-day creative decisions. Curtis is also in front of the camera for the show. The creative pairing puts two experienced comedy voices at the centre of an NBC original built around adult relationships.

Curtis plays Claudia, the ex-wife of Daly's character James. Her presence adds a third point to the new marriage from the start. Pam Fryman directed and executive produced the pilot episode, the first episode that launches the series. Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio behind the production.

What makes this stand out is the casting link to real life. Leoni and Daly are married off screen and now play a couple testing a fresh marriage on screen. Curtis moves between creating the series and playing the ex who still has a place in the story. The trailer gives viewers the first full look at that setup before the October launch.
