Sorkin opens Social Reckoning film and Few Good Men revival days apart

Aaron Sorkin is about to open a film and a Broadway show in the same week.
His new film, The Social Reckoning, plays exclusively in theatres from 9 October, according to Sony Pictures. The Broadway revival of his play A Few Good Men begins performances the day before, on 8 October 2026, at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in New York City The Hollywood Reporter.
The Social Reckoning is Sorkin's follow-up to The Social Network from 2010. He wrote and directed the new film The Hollywood Reporter. He does not call it a sequel. He describes it as a story set in the same universe.
The film dramatises the true story of Frances Haugen and Jeff Horwitz. Haugen is the former Facebook employee who disclosed internal documents about the company. Horwitz is the Wall Street Journal reporter who reported on them. Sorkin spent several years speaking with both before writing the script The Hollywood Reporter.
Mikey Madison plays Haugen. Jeremy Allen White plays Horwitz. Jesse Eisenberg, who played Mark Zuckerberg in the 2010 film, declined to return for the new film The Hollywood Reporter. Sony Pictures describes the story as a true David and Goliath contest between ordinary people and a large institution.
Very few people have seen the finished film. Sorkin said there were no traditional test screenings, the advance showings studios use to gauge audience reaction. He said that was due to security measures Sony required because of the subject matter. He also said he has not spoken with Meta or Zuckerberg about the film, but Sony received a letter making the studio aware that Meta has lawyers The Hollywood Reporter.
Sorkin first showed the trailer on stage at CinemaCon, the annual gathering of cinema owners The Hollywood Reporter. He has since said Jeremy Strong, who co-stars in the film, treated his fellow actors the way Sorkin imagines Zuckerberg would The Hollywood Reporter.
Then comes opening night on Broadway. The revival of A Few Good Men is the first time the play has returned to Broadway. It is directed by Michael Arden and stars Bradley Whitford, Tom Blyth and Krysta Rodriguez. Whitford made his own Broadway debut in the original production.
It is scheduled as a 13-week limited engagement, meaning it has a set closing date. Opening night is 29 October 2026, with closing night set for 10 January 2027.
The play is where Sorkin started. He wrote the original A Few Good Men on cocktail napkins while working as a theatre bartender. It ran on Broadway from 1989 to early 1991 and was adapted into the 1992 film starring Tom Cruise as Lt. Daniel Kaffee The Hollywood Reporter. Sorkin said he agreed to the revival after being asked by Lincoln Center, which operates the Vivian Beaumont.
What makes this stand out is the timing. One story looks at social media power now. The other is a courtroom drama more than 35 years old. Both reach the public within 24 hours of each other.
