Piccioli calls Paris outing his most personal Balenciaga show

Pierpaolo Piccioli called his latest Balenciaga show "the most personal show I have done here". He presented the collection at Paris Fashion Week on 1 October 2026. It was a pared-back statement from a designer still early in his tenure. The Guardian
Piccioli is creative director, the designer in overall charge of a house's collections, of Balenciaga, the Paris-based house owned by Kering, the French luxury group. He followed Demna, the designer who previously held the post. His Summer 26 collection was his debut in the role, according to the house. Balenciaga
The staging was simple and direct. Piccioli placed a monumental sculpture in the middle of the catwalk, the runway on which models present clothes. It took the shape of undersea coral and was crafted from fabric.
The clothes stayed close to that restrained mood. One exit was a floor-length ivory cape fastened with a simple gold clasp. Another was a black suit cut with a slash of tangerine at the jacket hem.
The palette moved between quiet and sharp. Small jolt. Clean line.
The October presentation sits within a busy first year for Piccioli at the house. His Fall 2026 collection was also designed under his direction. His 55th Couture collection, couture meaning handmade clothes made to order for private clients, was the first conceived by him for the house. An earlier couture show for Fall 2026 was staged in a scenic courtyard at the Cite Internationale Universitaire de Paris. WWD
For anyone new to fashion week, a few terms help. A collection is the set of clothes a designer shows for a season. A catwalk show presents them on models in front of buyers, press and clients. What sells later in shops often traces back to these few minutes.
A change of creative director matters beyond the front row. It shapes what workshops are asked to make, what fabrics mills develop and what reaches the shop floor months later. That is why a second or third show in a tenure draws close attention. People want to see direction settle.
What makes this stand out is the language Piccioli chose to frame it. Designers often talk about concepts. He talked about personality. For fans, this means the focus stays on cut, cloth and hand finish rather than spectacle.
