Hilary Duff released “CATastrophe” on Oct. 2, an original song written for Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s theatrical adaptation of The Cat in the Hat.

The track arrived with a music video. Duff had surprise-announced the single two days earlier, ahead of its release day push, according to Just Jared.

The video puts Duff inside colourful, oversized worlds built around Dr. Seuss visual language. She co-wrote the song with Matthew Koma, Madison Love and Brian Phillips. Koma and Phillips produced it, Billboard reported.

The film is the first full-length theatrical feature from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. Bill Hader voices the Cat. The story follows the Cat as he helps siblings Gabby and Sebastian adjust to a move to a new town.

The voice cast also includes Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Xochitl Gomez, Giancarlo Esposito and America Ferrera. The Cat in the Hat will arrive in theatres and IMAX on Nov. 6. Its soundtrack is due on Oct. 30.

The song continues a busy return for Duff. She released the album Luck… Or Something earlier this year, her first studio album in more than a decade. The 11-track set debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, the United States weekly ranking that measures album consumption.

That debut gave Duff her sixth top 10 album. It was also her highest Billboard 200 position since 2007.

She launched the Lucky Me tour this year after nearly two decades away from full-scale touring. The tour has been extended through 2027. Duff is also set to receive Billboard’s Outstanding Pop Tour of the Year award at the 2026 Billboard Live Music Summit in November.

For families, this means two dates to note. The single and video are out now. The album of music from the film follows at the end of the month, ahead of the film itself.
