The cameras have stopped in Kentucky. Filming wrapped in September on Twilight of the Dead, the planned final chapter of George A. Romero's zombie saga, with Kate Beckinsale leading the cast, according to Deadline.

Beckinsale stars alongside Betty Gabriel, Abigail London and John D. Hickman. The shoot took place in Kentucky and finished last month, as reported on 2 October 2026.

The story is set on a decimated earth. The last remnants of humanity are caught between warring factions and an undead threat that keeps changing.

That premise closes a long chain. Romero wrote a treatment for Twilight of the Dead before his death in 2017, with Paolo Zelati as co-author. Romero regarded it as the conclusion to a saga that ran to six films, plus spinoffs and remakes. The previous film in his series was released in 2009. The Twilight project was first revealed in 2021.

Direction came from Doron Paz and Yoav Paz, known as the Paz Brothers. Ho Sung Pak directed the stunt and action sequences. Greg Nicotero handled all special effects, continuing a link that goes back to working with Romero on Day Of The Dead and later serving as make-up effects supervisor and director on The Walking Dead.

The production was organised by Roundtable Entertainment, led by producers John Baldecchi and Sarah Donnelly with executive producer and Roundtable president Dominic Ianno, in partnership with Suzanne Romero. The film has buy-in from the Romero estate. Zelati is also producer and screenwriter. Additional producers include Bob Yari, Shaun Sanghani of SSS Entertainment, Kenneth Kim of Aanaxion, Ho Sung Pak and George Furla.

Distribution is already mapped. Bob Yari's Magenta Light Studios holds North American rights and will release the film theatrically in the United States and Canada — domestic, the industry term for those two markets combined. The Syndicate handles international sales, the business of selling distribution rights country by country, according to Deadline.

For fans, this means a wait is nearly over. Seventeen years separate the 2009 entry from this shoot. A treatment left behind in 2017 has now been filmed, with the estate involved and a cinema release planned at home.
