Countess Karen Spencer Buys £3.6M Mansion Near Althorp After Divorce

Karen Spencer, Countess Spencer, has reportedly bought a £3.6 million mansion about 10 miles from the Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire.
The report, published on 2 October 2026, said part of her divorce settlement funded the purchase. It also said she has kept her Countess title — the courtesy style held by the wife of an earl — after the split. The Daily Mail first carried the claim about the settlement and the price, which was picked up by Hello!.
The six-bedroom house sits on the edge of a picturesque village. It reportedly has a heated swimming pool, a tennis court, a gym and outdoor dining areas. She stayed nearby. The purchase follows a spell in rented accommodation.
Countess Spencer was the third wife of Charles Spencer, Earl Spencer. Their 13-year marriage ended in 2024. They married at Althorp in 2011 and share a 14-year-old daughter, Charlotte. Earl Spencer, 62, confirmed the separation in June 2024. He said: “It is immensely sad.”
She moved out of Althorp House four months after the separation announcement. She later said leaving was not an easy transition after 14 years living there. On 20 August 2025 she announced she had bought a house, saying paperwork had been signed the previous day. She moved into the Northamptonshire home in October.
The divorce was finalised at the end of December 2025. That timing matters. It explains why reports now link the house purchase to the financial settlement. The price was £3.6 million.
Karen Spencer, 54, is a Canadian-born entrepreneur who moved to the UK in 2011. Earl Spencer is the younger brother of Diana, Princess of Wales, and works as a historian and author. Althorp is the 13,000-acre Northamptonshire estate the Spencer family has owned since 1508. It is where the late princess grew up and her final resting place.
For followers, the move closes a long chapter at Althorp. She has called the new house her little corner of Northamptonshire. She said her animals were settling in nicely. She has since shared glimpses of the house, its spacious garden and its history.
