Robbie Savage takes charge at Peterborough after Forest Green exit

Robbie Savage is the new manager of Peterborough United.
The club, who play in League One, the third tier of English football, confirmed the appointment on 2 October The Guardian. He joins after leaving his role at Forest Green Rovers. It was a quick switch from one dugout to another.
Forest Green had given Savage permission to speak to Peterborough. That matters in football. A manager under contract cannot talk to another club unless his current employers say yes. Forest Green confirmed that permission in a club statement on 29 September Forest Green Rovers.
The same statement said Savage wanted to leave for personal reasons. Forest Green chairman Dale Vince shared the news with supporters. On the other side of the deal, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony acted to bring Savage in. The chairman runs the club off the pitch. The manager picks the team and sets the style on it.
Savage needs little introduction for many fans. He won 39 caps for Wales as a player BBC Sport. A cap means an appearance for the national team. He played in central midfield, the engine-room role that links defence and attack, and he built a reputation as a fierce competitor who never hid.
He started his managerial career with non-league Macclesfield. Non-league means outside the top four divisions in England. It is a tough school. Crowds are smaller and resources are tight. Managers learn fast.
He then took the Forest Green job in July 2025 BBC Sport. His time there was brief. Just over a year later, Peterborough came calling and he decided to go.
What makes this stand out is the speed. Permission to talk, departure, then a new start. All inside a few days. For supporters, this means a fresh voice with something to prove.
Peterborough will hope that energy travels. One appointment can change the mood around a club. Savage will now get his chance to show what he can do.
