Fighting-game champion Justin Wong turned his most famous defeat into a neck tattoo for the new Street Fighter movie.

Wong appears as a prison inmate watching Ryu fight Blanka, with a fake "37" inked on his neck. The number points to Evo Moment 37, his much-replayed 2004 loss to Daigo Umehara. The film is scheduled for release in theatres on 16 October, according to GameSpot.

Wong does not watch alone. He shares the scene with fellow player and commentator Michael "IFC Yipes" Mendoza, who also appears as an inmate in the crowd for the prison bout. Callina Liang plays Chun-Li in the film. Composers Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson scored the picture, including a new version of Guile's theme.

Newcomers need a little context. Evo is the long-running fighting-game championship. Moment 37 happened there in 2004, during a match of Street Fighter III: Third Strike between Wong and Umehara. Wong attacked with Chun-Li's super, a powerful special move saved up during a fight. Umehara answered with a parry — a perfectly timed block that takes no damage — on every kick, then won the round, according to IGN.

He lost that day. Wong has talked about it openly ever since. Now the movie wears it on his neck.

The tattoo is visible in behind-the-scenes material Wong shared from the set. He published a video titled "I WENT AND FILMED AT THE STREET FIGHTER MOVIE SET!!" on 1 October 2026, with a runtime of 13 minutes 6 seconds. The clip shows fake dirt being applied and Wong dressing for the inmate role. Its description encourages viewers to buy tickets to the film, according to YouTube.

What makes this stand out is the choice of perspective. The film could have hired Wong as a consultant and left it there. Instead it put him in the frame, marked with the number every fighting-game fan recognises, watching two other characters trade blows.
