Jack Reynor, John Magaro and Natalia Dyer have joined HBO's The Trial of Louise Woodward. Deadline reported the three castings as its own exclusive on 2 October 2026, Deadline. The announcement fills out the legal teams at the heart of the drama.

The show is a true-crime limited series, meaning it is planned as one self-contained season with a set ending, from creator Matthew Barry. A creator in television is the writer-producer who originates a series and guides its story. A limited series differs from a returning drama because it is not built to run for multiple years. It tells one story and stops.

Catriona Chandler leads the cast in the title role. She plays Louise Woodward herself. That puts her at the centre of every episode. The three new arrivals join her as the lawyers arguing the case around her.

Reynor will play Gerry Leone, the lead prosecutor. The lead prosecutor is the lawyer who presents the case against the accused on behalf of the state. It is the senior speaking part on that side of the courtroom. His case will be tested at trial.

Magaro will play Barry Scheck, the lead defence counsel, meaning the lawyer in charge of defending the accused. Defence counsel challenges the evidence, questions witnesses and speaks for the client in court. Dyer will play Ada Lynn Rooney, a Middlesex County assistant district attorney. An assistant district attorney is a local public prosecutor who takes criminal cases to trial. She will sit on the prosecution side alongside Leone.

The trio join five other confirmed series regulars. Joanne Froggatt, Meghann Fahy and Sagar Radia also star, alongside Chloë Sevigny and Hugh Laurie, according to Deadline's reporting, Deadline. An ensemble is the wider group of principal actors around the lead. With Chandler included, that brings the announced principal cast to nine names.

What makes this stand out for viewers is the balance of the line-up. Two names have been added for the prosecution and one to lead the defence. That sets both tables in the courtroom. With Chandler in the middle as Woodward, the case can now be played from all sides. It is a large group for a single-season story.
