Sézane, the Paris-based womenswear label, opened a 2,800-square-foot boutique at 1045 Madison Avenue in New York on 2 October. It is the brand's third permanent shop in the city. It joins existing sites in NoLita in Manhattan and Williamsburg in Brooklyn. WWD

The new address sits at Madison Avenue and 79th Street in the Upper East Side neighbourhood. Sézane, founded in Paris in 2013 by Morgane Sézalory, lists the full address as 1045 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10075. Shop hours are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 11am to 6pm. Sézane

The company calls the space L'Appartement on Madison Avenue. It was designed with Pierre Lacroix, the Saint-Germain-des-Prés-based interior designer, in what is reported as his first retail project in the United States.

Inside, the shop pairs vintage furniture with warm oak parquet floors, mirrored surfaces and sculptural lighting. The colour palette runs chestnut, amber and ecru. Work on show includes photographs by William Klein, the Franco-American photographer.

The shop stocks women's ready-to-wear, clothes sold finished rather than made to measure, alongside accessories. It also carries Petit Sézane, the children's line in sizes from newborn to 12 years.

What makes this stand out is the residential cue. The Appartement format favours rooms over rails. Shoppers move through defined living-style spaces rather than one open sales floor.

Beyond New York, Sézane lists permanent American shops in San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Brentwood, California. It also runs long-term pop-ups, temporary shops kept open for extended runs, in Austin, Atlanta, Boston, Nashville, Dallas, Charleston, S.C., and San Jose, California. In August it added its first Los Angeles shop with the Brentwood opening.

The Madison Avenue launch followed an early-autumn opening at 117 Rue du Bac in Paris, described as the brand's most expansive footprint in the city to date. That street already holds a permanent Sézane store and the company's head office. The new Paris site sits on the corner across from Le Bon Marché, the Paris department store, while Sézane trades as a B Corp, a certification granted after audit of social and environmental practice.
