Jarvis holds two-shot Dunhill Links lead as Jordan chases first win

South Africa's Casey Jarvis will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at 18 under par.
Jarvis shot a bogey-free 65 at St Andrews in the third round, starting with an eagle, two under par on a single hole, at the first, according to BBC Sport. Bogey-free means no holes over par all day. On a links, where wind can ruin a card in two swings, that is control.
England's Matthew Jordan is his nearest challenger on 16 under, level with Poland's Adrian Meronk. Jordan, 30, returned a six-under 66 at Kingsbarns after starting the third round there. Meronk went even lower at the same course, a nine-under 63 to climb into the tie for second.
Jordan is still chasing a first DP World Tour victory after two runner-up finishes this season, the DP World Tour reported. He has form on this soil. He won the 2017 St Andrews Links Trophy as an amateur and finished runner-up at the Nexo Championship in Scotland in August.
Belgium's Thomas Detry sits one further back on 15 under after his own seven-under 65 at St Andrews. He is close enough to pounce if the leaders stall. Three shots can vanish with one bad bounce on firm links turf.
Matt Fitzpatrick moved to 12 under with six under at St Andrews in round three. He shares that number with defending champion Robert MacIntyre and Scotland's Calum Hill. Six back is a long way. It is not out of it.
What makes this stand out is the mix at the top. Jarvis has the lead and a clean scorecard behind him. Jordan has scar tissue and local knowledge, plus the freedom of a man with nothing to defend. Meronk has the hottest hand of the three after that 63.
For fans, this means a simple watch. A two-shot gap is one swing if Jarvis wobbles and Jordan makes birdie, one under par on a hole. Expect the wind to have the first say, then the lie, then the leaderboard. That is links golf, and the last round should squeeze accordingly.
