Princess Sofia of Sweden has swapped summer blonde for deep chocolate brown.

She showed off the dramatically darker colour at the opening of the Swedish parliament on Tuesday, 29 September, where she appeared alongside her husband, Prince Carl Philip. The autumn update was hard to miss. Gone were the light blonde highlights she wore through summer.

Sofia wore her newly darkened hair in a half updo, finished with a black satin bow at the back. The style kept the length loose around her shoulders while lifting the front away from her face, according to Hello! Magazine.

Her outfit matched the polished mood. She chose a monochrome skirt suit with oversized white lapels and military-style buttons. She paired it with black patent stilettos and a matching clutch bag.

She was part of a full royal turnout for one of Sweden's set-piece constitutional days. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended, along with Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, and Princess Madeleine and Christopher O'Neill.

The day followed the traditional pattern. The royals first attended a religious service inside Stockholm Cathedral. They then proceeded to the Riksdagen, Sweden's parliament, for the formal opening.

In the chamber, it was the King who did the constitutional work. H.M. The King declared the 2026/2027 Riksmöte, the parliamentary session, open at a ceremony in the Riksdag chamber, according to the Swedish Royal Court.

For fans, this means a familiar autumn switch. Warmer, darker tones replace sun-lightened colour as the calendar turns. Sofia's version leans rich and glossy rather than near-black.

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia married at Slottskyrkan in Stockholm on 13 June 2015. They are parents to Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, Prince Julian and Princess Ines.
