Queen Silvia of Sweden accidentally showed a solo portrait of her husband, King Carl XVI Gustaf, on her phone during an engagement in Gothenburg, according to Hello Magazine.

The moment came during the Swedish royal couple's programme in the city. That programme formed part of a state visit by Singapore's President, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and his wife, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam. A state visit is a formal trip by a head of state, hosted by the monarch with official ceremony and set events. The Swedish king and queen joined the Singapore visitors on business visits in Gothenburg.

The delegation toured Queen Silvia's Children's Hospital. It also visited the Ågrenska foundation, which supports children and young people with rare diagnoses. Hello Magazine reported these visits alongside the phone moment.

The visit was the first state visit by Singapore to Sweden. The state banquet, a formal dinner hosted by the monarchs, took place at Stockholm Palace on the evening of 19 October 2026, according to Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dress at the banquet followed the tradition of tiaras, the jewelled headpieces worn at formal evenings. Queen Silvia wore the Braganza Tiara. Crown Princess Victoria wore the diamond Laurel Tiara. Princess Madeleine attended with her husband, Christopher O'Neill. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were not present, as Nine reported.

Queen Silvia, 82, and the King married on 19 June 1976 at Stockholm Cathedral. They marked their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2026 with a church service and a horse-drawn carriage procession through Stockholm. The couple first met at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. They have three children, Victoria, Carl Philip and Madeleine, and nine grandchildren.

The state visit ran from 19 to 21 October 2026, according to the Singapore ministry.
