Wales host Denmark and Ireland face Israel on Nations League night

Wales face Denmark in Cardiff and the Republic of Ireland meet Israel on Sunday 4 October as the UEFA Nations League reaches Matchday 4.
UEFA lists both ties in the 2026-27 league phase, with Matchday 4 kicking off on 4 October UEFA. The Nations League is UEFA's international tournament, played in groups with promotion and relegation between leagues.
Wales arrive after a win. They beat 10-man Norway 2-1 in Cardiff on the preceding Thursday. They hosted Denmark at 19:45 BST on 4 October BBC.
The Ireland-Israel fixture is a fraught rematch. Their earlier meeting went ahead after a vote by Ireland players The Guardian. Ireland's subsequent 2-2 draw was halted twice by Palestine protests The Guardian.
Portugal meet Norway with a striking absence. Cristiano Ronaldo was omitted from the squad while fit for the first time in 22 years ahead of the tie The Guardian. Bruno Fernandes captained Portugal instead. Norway started with Martin Odegaard, Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb in attack. Portugal are the defending champions under new manager Jorge Jesus, who had named Ronaldo in his first 25-man squad Al Jazeera. Ronaldo then left camp and missed the 4-2 win over Denmark on Matchday 3.
Germany travel to Thessaloniki after a historic defeat. Greece won the reverse fixture, their first-ever win over Germany. Jurgen Klopp is Germany's head coach. Florian Wirtz captained the side, and 18-year-old Lennart Karl made his first start. He is 18.
Last month still shapes the table. The Netherlands won 2-1 in Belgrade against Serbia after two goals from Mexx Meerdink, including a late winner. Luka Modric said he was 'ashamed' after a 7-0 defeat in the build-up to the weekend. England came into Sunday off the back of a Nations League romp.
What makes this stand out is the blend of the familiar and the fresh. Veterans such as Modric, Haaland and Wirtz share the night with new names such as Karl and Meerdink. For fans, this means ninety minutes that can reset a group and give a city something to talk about on the way home.
