Channel 4 has handed news boss Louisa Compton a seat on its executive board.

The appointment was reported on 5 October 2026. It makes Compton an Executive Board Member, meaning she joins the small group that runs the broadcaster day to day. Deadline

Compton is Channel 4's Director of News, Digital and Audience Trust. That job covers news output, digital publishing and the broadcaster's work on trust in what it airs.

She will sit alongside chief executive Priya Dogra and chief financial officer Lucy Thomas. Chair Geoff Cooper leads the board. Channel 4 has also said the successor to Ian Katz, its former Director of Programmes, will take a board seat when hired.

That last detail matters. The Director of Programmes is the executive in charge of the channel's schedule and shows. Putting both that role and Compton on the board gives commissioning, the job of choosing and ordering new programmes, two voices at the top.

Compton is a long-serving Channel 4 executive. She replaced Dorothy Byrne as Head of News and Current Affairs in March 2020, according to a Channel 4 announcement. Channel 4 That role also included responsibility for sport.

In July 2026, Channel 4 set out its plan for life after Katz. Compton and Kiran Nataraja were promoted to jointly lead the commissioning team, alongside a third director still to be recruited. WebWire

For viewers, this means the person responsible for news and audience trust now has a formal vote on how Channel 4 is run. The other vote will belong to whoever takes the top programming job next.
