L7 have released a new single, "Loma Linda", and are giving it away free for one week through their website before it goes to streaming services.

The free download is available now. It will move to streaming after the seven-day window closes, the band confirmed Rolling Stone.

"Loma Linda" is not a brand-new start. It began life as an unfinished recording from 2003, cut originally with bassist Janis Tanaka. Tanaka played with the Los Angeles group from 1999 to 2001. The band have now finished the track with newly recorded vocals, new lyrics and additional tracks.

The new version was completed after Tanaka rejoined L7 on bass Consequence. She returned following the death of bassist Jennifer Finch. Finch died on 18 July at age 59 after a battle with brain cancer.

The band present the free release as a thank-you. It is in honour of Finch and Tanaka, and of fans for their support since Finch's death.

For fans, this means a short window to keep the song. Download it from the band's site during the week. After that, listen on streaming.

The single arrives ahead of L7's final world tour. The run is called The Last Hurrah Tour. It begins at the Casbah in San Diego.

L7 were formed in Los Angeles in 1985 by Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner, according to the band's history L7. Sparks plays guitar and vocals. Gardner plays guitar and vocals. Dee Plakas plays drums. Finch, Gail Greenwood and Tanaka have each played bass for the group at different times.

The band are offering VIP packages and meet-and-greets for all shows on the farewell run. Details are listed on their website.
