Maude Apatow and Mike Faist will star in The Maid of Orleans, the new film from writer-director Sarah Elizabeth Mintz.

The casting was reported on 5 October 2026, with shooting due to start that same week, according to Deadline. Mintz wrote the script and will direct. It is her follow-up to Good Girl Jane.

The story centres on a young woman working as an assistant to a famously talented director on a French production of Joan of Arc. Astute Films is financing the film, meaning it is paying for the production. Mintz will produce alongside Shuli Harel and Jeff David, according to Deadline.

Apatow is best known to television viewers as Lexi Howard on HBO's Euphoria. She is also stepping behind the camera. She will make her feature directorial debut with Poetic License, which stars Cooper Hoffman, Andrew Barth Feldman and Leslie Mann.

Poetic License premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and later screened at South by Southwest in Texas. Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the film for release next spring, according to Deadline.

Faist stars in the Netflix limited series East of Eden, a story told across a set number of episodes, alongside Florence Pugh and Christopher Abbott.

What makes this stand out is the set-up. A backstage story about staging Joan of Arc gives Mintz two layers to play with: the young assistant finding her footing, and the famous director putting a legend on stage.
