The Social Reckoning hits theatres Oct. 9 with Jeremy Strong as Zuckerberg

Jeremy Strong takes over as Mark Zuckerberg when Sony Pictures releases The Social Reckoning in theatres on Oct. 9, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The date is set. Full critics' reviews are due to drop on Oct. 7.
Aaron Sorkin wrote the script and directed the film, the trade publication reported. It is a companion film, a separate story in the same world rather than a continuation, to The Social Network from 2010. Sorkin also wrote that earlier film.
The new story centres on the 2021 Facebook leak. Tens of thousands of internal documents were sent to the Wall Street Journal and the Securities and Exchange Commission. The film is described by Sony Pictures as inspired by true events.
Mikey Madison plays Frances Haugen. Jeremy Allen White plays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz. Strong plays Zuckerberg.
Jesse Eisenberg, who played Zuckerberg in the 2010 film, turned down the chance to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Strong had told Sorkin, "If Jesse Eisenberg doesn't do it, call me," as reported in an earlier interview in The Hollywood Reporter. Strong said the part is the kind of role that fascinates him.
The wider cast includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen and Bill Burr. Behind the camera, Jeff Cronenweth was the cinematographer. Alexandre Desplat composed the music.
Sorkin has discussed how the film approaches Zuckerberg. He said reactions to Zuckerberg after The Social Network came out were split along generational lines, in an interview reported by The Hollywood Reporter. He also explained why he does not present Zuckerberg as a villain in The Social Reckoning.
Early social media reactions called it a timely slow-burn legal drama with a compelling performance from Strong. Other first reactions were blunter. Variety reported posts describing the film as "good, not great" and harsh on Zuckerberg.
For audiences, this means two dates to watch. Reviews land on Oct. 7. The film opens exclusively in theatres on Oct. 9, 2026, listed by Sony Pictures as a drama and thriller.
