Lottie Brooks is coming to television.

StudioCanal and Deadpan Pictures are developing a live-action version of Katie Kirby's The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks, meaning real actors rather than animation, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 6 October. The project is in development, meaning scripts are being worked on before any filming is approved.

Writers Josie Long and Holly Phillips are adapting the books for the screen. Ailish McElmeel is producing for Deadpan Pictures.

M-K Kennedy and Paul Gilbert are overseeing the project for StudioCanal. Sarah Reese Geffroy is overseeing for StudioCanal Stories, the company's in-house book-to-screen label.

StudioCanal Stories negotiated the rights to the series. The label was set up in 2024 to turn literary properties into film and television.

The sales history gives the adaptation a large readership to draw on. The Puffin series runs to nine books, with more than 3 million copies sold worldwide and translations in more than 30 languages, according to the report.

Earlier trade coverage gives a sense of its base in Britain. The series debuted in 2021 and had sold 1.6 million copies across the U.K. by February 2026, Publishers Weekly reported. Kirby is a British author-illustrator.

The business around the show is already mapped out. StudioCanal Kids & Family will handle worldwide merchandising and licensing, meaning books, toys, clothing and other tie-ins.

For readers, this means a familiar diary now has a second life to follow. The pages exist. The scripts are next.
