A personal signature sits at the bottom of the latest thank-you from Kensington Palace. The Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, wrote to Dame Kelly Holmes after their joint September visit to Liverpool to thank her for speaking openly.

The letter was sent after the couple appeared at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Regent Road, Liverpool, for the launch of 'On Your Side', according to HELLO!. The engagement is listed in the Court Circular, the official daily record of royal working engagements, as a visit by the Prince and Princess of Wales to the stadium.

The September outing brought William and Catherine together with sports stars at the Liverpool ground, as reported by People. It marked the launch of 'On Your Side', a suicide-prevention initiative. Prince William wrote the foreword for the accompanying 'On Your Side' toolkit, a practical guide intended to help people support others.

The thank-you note itself was phrased from "Catherine and I" and closed with Prince William's personal signature. In it, William and Catherine thanked Holmes, the double Olympic champion, for joining them at the launch and for sharing her story openly. They told her that her words "will have helped countless people."

Holmes said receiving the envelope was a "pinch me" moment. She thanked the Kensington Palace social media account, the office that speaks for the Prince and Princess of Wales, for what she called a kind letter.

What makes this stand out is the paperwork. Royal thank-you letters are routine, but the wording here is doing the work. It names both sender and recipient, ties the thanks to a specific appearance recorded in the Court Circular, and keeps the focus on Holmes and the cause. Short. Personal. On the record.
