Abbott Elementary is going to Disneyland for its 100th episode.

The ABC comedy will shoot the milestone instalment at the theme park, Deadline reported on 7 October. Plot details have not been released. Disney declined to comment on the shoot.

The Disneyland episode is set to air in December. It will serve as the Season 6 fall finale, meaning the last episode to air before the winter break.

The timing follows close behind the season launch. Season 6 premieres on ABC on 7 October at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT, which is today, 7 October, and each episode streams the next day on Hulu, according to Disney Plus. That gives viewers about two months with the teachers and pupils of Willard R. Abbott Elementary before the big trip.

Abbott Elementary will not be the first ABC sitcom to pack its bags for the park. Modern Family made a Disneyland trip in its third season. The Goldbergs and George Lopez also filmed episodes at Disneyland in California, Deadline reported.

For fans, this means a change of scenery. The show is a workplace comedy set almost entirely inside a Philadelphia public school. A location shoot moves Janine, Gregory, Ava and the rest of the staff out of the classrooms and into the queues, rides and crowds.

A 100th episode is a landmark for any network comedy. Few current broadcast shows get there. Abbott Elementary reaching it in its sixth season puts it in a small club, and the producers are marking it with a fan favourite setting.
