Jaguar Type 01: A 1,016-HP Electric Grand Tourer, Explained

Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, an electric four-door grand tourer rated at up to 1,016 horsepower and 1,365Nm of torque. The car is the production follow-up to the Type 00 concept, which Jaguar says is its most powerful road car ever. The Verge JLR rates output at up to 1,030PS, the metric equivalent. JLR
The powertrain uses three electric motors, with one front and two rear. Peak system output is 1,016 horsepower with 1,365Nm. The configuration puts two independent machines on the rear axle and one on the front axle, fed from a common high-voltage bus, a shared power supply.
Acceleration is 0-62mph in 3.2 seconds. Jaguar quotes a further 4.0 seconds from 62mph to 112mph. On its model page, Jaguar describes the Type 01 as the fastest accelerating Jaguar ever. Jaguar
Energy storage is a 118kWh battery, rated for up to 400 miles of range. Jaguar rates the car at a 400-mile EPA range, the U.S. test measure, on an 850-volt electrical architecture, a higher-pressure electrical system. Jaguar DC fast charging peaks at 350kW, adding 200 miles of range in as little as 13 minutes. High voltage keeps current lower for a given power level, which helps with cable sizing, thermal load and sustained charging performance.
Jaguar also describes the Type 01 as the most aerodynamic Jaguar ever. Jaguar In a separate page, the company calls it the most advanced Jaguar production vehicle ever. Exterior details disclosed so far include 23-inch wheels and no true rear window. Instead, a display rises from a panoramic soundbar and shows a rear-facing camera feed.
The cockpit centers on a 24-inch OLED display behind the steering wheel. Two additional 7-inch screens sit in the central spine, front and rear, with controls for climate, audio and seats. The layout consolidates primary driving information ahead of the driver and pushes secondary controls and displays (HMI) to the spine, a split that reduces mode confusion for rear passengers while keeping high-bandwidth graphics close to the driver’s line of sight.
The full production reveal took place in New York on 6 October 2026. Automotive World Jaguar teased that one Type 01 variant will cost $130,500. Orders are expected to open in early 2027. Shipping follows in the second half of 2027.
The broader context here is balance. Tri-motor output, 118kWh usable energy, 850-volt operation and 350kW charging address the three constraints that have limited electric grand tourers: straight-line performance, cruising range and turnaround time on long routes. The camera-based rear vision system and OLED-heavy interior move complexity into software and electronics integration, where update cycles are faster and differentiation lasts longer than sheet metal. In my view, that is the more durable shift, a large, fast, long-range GT whose service life will be defined as much by power electronics and display pipelines as by chassis tuning.
