Chelsy Davy has said she never wanted marriage or motherhood until she met her husband Sam Cutmore-Scott.

The designer, who dated Prince Harry on and off for seven years until 2011, made the admission in a personal essay to mark ten years since she founded her jewellery line, Aya Jewels, Hello! Magazine reported on 7 October 2026.

"Commitment wasn't my strong suit," Davy wrote, in remarks reported by the Daily Mail. She said she had spent years avoiding both marriage and having children. That changed with Cutmore-Scott. Meeting him, she said, was the first time she knew she wanted a family, specifically with him.

Davy said she met Cutmore-Scott, a hotelier, during Covid when she was 35. She was open about why her mind may have shifted then. Timing and possibly biology may have played a part, she said, given her age at the time.

The couple married in a secret ceremony in 2022. Their family life since has moved quickly. They have settled in Mauritius with three young children: Leo, 4, Chloe, 3, and Finn, six months, as of October 2026.

Davy also wrote about a frightening start for her youngest child. Finn had meningitis at two weeks old, she said. He is now six months old.

Davy, who was born in Zimbabwe and first worked as a lawyer before becoming a jewellery designer, launched Aya as an Africa-inspired line, according to National Jeweler. The brand marked its tenth anniversary this year.

What makes this stand out is the plainness of the telling. No big reveal. Just a woman saying she changed her mind when the right person arrived.
