Lego's First Live-Action Musical Sets Global Debut on Oct. 16

Lego will release its first live-action musical feature on Oct. 16.
The 50-minute original, titled Lego Friends: Heartlake the Musical, will debut globally on Netflix and on Lego's YouTube channel, according to Variety. It is based on Lego's Lego Friends toy line. That day-and-date launch gives viewers a free option and a subscription option on the same morning.
Peacock has also taken the film for the Americas, with its own Oct. 16 release. That type of licensing deal, where a local service buys the right to show a title in its territories, sits alongside the global Netflix and YouTube bow.
More dates follow fast. Turkcell will launch the film in Turkey on Oct. 17. DuoMedia will debut it in the Baltics on Oct. 17. VTM Go has it for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg from Oct. 19.
November brings two more windows. AMC Networks has rights for Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Czech Republic and Slovakia from Nov. 1. Tubi will then debut the film on Nov. 2 in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand and the U.K.
Two later stops are already set. Czech TV will air it in the Czech Republic on Dec. 1. Zoom/Imagine Kids will debut it in Israel on Jan. 1. In China, Tencent Kids, Youku Kids and BesTV will carry it on dates still to be confirmed.
The story centres on Daisy, played by Jada Langley. Daisy finds a magic key to Heartlake City and joins new friends to save a local treehouse. Gino Ochello also stars. Lego's earlier synopsis described the lead as a girl who builds a world from Lego bricks before she is magically transported to Heartlake City, as noted by LEGO.
Behind the camera, Paul Becker directed. Kenny Ortega wrote the story, produced the film and is credited as an executive producer. Kirk R. Thatcher and Jeremy Adams wrote the screenplay. The film was produced by Final Pixel and shot entirely in the U.K.
For fans, this means check your local listing first. Most viewers get it on Oct. 16. Others will find it days or weeks later on a home-country service.
On toy shelves, Heartlake already has a footprint. Lego sells a Heartlake City Music Talent Show set, No. 42616, which includes four Lego Friends characters.
