Olivia Rodrigo bought Meg White's Elephant dress

Olivia Rodrigo spent an “exorbitant amount of money” to buy the white dress Meg White wore on the cover of The White Stripes’ Elephant.
She revealed the purchase in a cover interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Oct. 7. The piece is titled “Olivia Rodrigo: The Queen of Sad Finds Her Happy Place”. Billboard attributes her comments about the dress to that cover story.
The dress is a vintage Gunne Sax design worn by White for the Elephant artwork. It sold for US$25,600 during Julien’s Auctions Music Icons sale in May. Elephant, released in 2003, reached No. 6 on the Billboard 200 that year.
Rodrigo told The Hollywood Reporter she had hoped to wear the dress on stage at her own festival in August. The heat stopped her. It was too hot for the heavy vintage fabric.
“Maybe if I do Daisy Chain in the winter, I can wear it,” she said.
That festival was Daisy Chain Fields, her inaugural charity event held in August. The bill included Chappell Roan and Doechii among others. Rodrigo performed in a lacy dress instead, according to coverage of the night.
The Hollywood Reporter describes Rodrigo as an avid Jack White fan. White, with Meg White, formed The White Stripes.
What makes this stand out is the afterlife of the dress. It moved from an album cover seen by millions to storage at an auction house, and now to another musician’s wardrobe. Rodrigo has not said when the winter edition she mentioned might happen.
