Zara Larsson can see herself going into politics at 50 — as a “singing Mamdani” who is for the people.

The Swedish pop star floated the idea on Las Culturistas, the podcast hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, in an episode released Oct. 7. She said a future run would most likely be in Sweden. The exchange was reported by Billboard.

Rogers and Yang leaned into the joke. They pitched “Puss Puss ’48” as a potential campaign slogan for Larsson.

The politics talk came alongside a check-in on Larsson’s recent music. Her 2025 album Midnight Sun reached No. 36 on the Billboard 200, the US albums chart. Its title track reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, the US singles chart.

Then came a bigger result. “Stateside,” her collaboration with PinkPantheress, reached No. 6 on the Hot 100. That is Larsson’s highest-charting hit on that chart to date.

Larsson also used the interview to make the case for “Blue Moon.” She said she wants to give the song its moment, even though it is not taking off organically on its own. Her plan is simple. Make a video and promote it.

She described the planned “Blue Moon” video as a nighttime counterpart to “Midnight Sun.” Expect a bigger budget and a Florida-inspired feel, she said.

There was one other piece of business. Larsson said she supports “Gooners” as the name for her fandom. It was a short answer. No hedging, no shortlist.

For listeners, this is two stories in one chat. A pop star thinking out loud about a political future decades away, while still working the current album cycle song by song.
