Christine Baranski and Richard E. Grant will bring Hay Fever to cinemas next year. The West End production will be released from 14 January 2027 through National Theatre Live, which films stage shows for screening in cinemas. WhatsOnStage

The screening will be captured live at Wyndham's Theatre in London, where the production is playing. Baranski plays Judith Bliss and Grant plays David Bliss. The staging is Emily Burns' revival of Noel Coward's comedy.

It is Baranski's West End debut, meaning her first appearance in London's main commercial theatre district. It is also her first return to the stage in 20 years. The run at Wyndham's began on 22 September 2026, with a press night on 1 October 2026, according to advance details. Variety

The London run is scheduled to end on 12 December 2026. That gives cinema audiences a chance to see it after the stage production closes. No cinema venues or ticket prices have been announced yet.

WhatsOnStage lead critic Sarah Crompton called the production "a well-oiled clock" and "a theatrical throwback". The quotes describe the tone. They are not a verdict from Brief.

There is more cinema news in the same announcement. Jack Thorne's The Motive and the Cue, starring Mark Gatiss, Johnny Flynn and Tuppence Middleton, will return to cinemas from 18 February 2027. That version was captured from the Lyttelton stage in 2023. The Lyttelton is one of the auditoriums inside the National Theatre on London's South Bank.

For fans, this means geography matters less. You do not need a London ticket to see the Wyndham's cast at full stretch. You need a local cinema instead.
