Blizzard to rework Skyborne look in World of Warcraft: Forever after fan feedback

Blizzard will rework the look of the Skyborne, the new playable race in World of Warcraft: Forever, after players said the models clashed with the rest of the game.
The change was outlined in a blog post on the World of Warcraft website and reported on 8 October 2026, with senior game designer Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield first acknowledging the criticism on the official World of Warcraft: Forever podcast Eurogamer. The podcast covered feedback on both the humanoid models and the druid models, a shape-shifting class that takes animal forms in play.
Blizzard said its first pass at the visual fidelity, the level of detail and sharpness in a character model, missed the mark. The stated aim for the revision is to uphold the original-era World of Warcraft aesthetic, the chunkier, lower-detail art style of the early game.
Side-by-side before-and-after images show where that revision lands. The updated models lose some softness. Colour saturation is lower. Fur textures carry more detail, with sharper strands and deeper shadow around the face and shoulders.
Both versions of the Skyborne elves will be altered to sit more comfortably alongside the rest of the cast. Blizzard agreed with players that the standard-definition Skyborne models, built in the older, lower-detail style, could feel jarring next to legacy races, the long-running playable races from earlier versions of the game.
The high-definition versions have the opposite problem. Blizzard said it heard feedback that the HD Skyborne, built with sharper modern detail, can look jarring when placed in the same world as standard-definition models and environments Blizzard. New standard-definition Skyborne models are now in development, with a planned release in early 2027.
The druid forms are getting the same treatment. Blizzard said the Skyborne come from an exotic environment and their Druid forms reflect that, but they should not feel dissonant with the visual language, the shared rules for shape, colour and texture, used for other creatures.
The Skyborne remain a race that spans the game's central divide. At character creation, the screen where players build a new avatar, players choose whether their Skyborne joins the Horde or the Alliance, the game's two large player factions. Horde-aligned Skyborne embrace elemental traditions, according to a panel recap published on 12 September 2026.
What makes this stand out is how specific the fix is. This is not a general polish pass. It is a response to a clear note from beta players about fit, and Blizzard has put a date on the second part of the answer.
