John Turturro to receive Variety Creative Vanguard Award at Miami Film Festival GEMS

John Turturro will receive the Variety Creative Vanguard Award at Miami Film Festival GEMS on Monday, Nov. 2.
The presentation is set for 7:00 p.m. at Miami Dade College's Wolfson Auditorium, Variety reported on Oct. 8. It will take the form of a moderated conversation, with the award given during the on-stage talk.
Turturro will sit down with Ramin Setoodeh, Variety's co-president and co-editor-in-chief, for a Q&A about his work. The discussion will cover his long career across acting, writing and directing.
The honour is part of the 13th Miami Film Festival GEMS, which runs Oct. 29 through Nov. 5. GEMS is the festival's autumn showcase, a shorter companion to the main spring edition in Miami.
Festivalgoers will also get an early look at Turturro's latest film. The Only Living Pickpocket in New York will screen at the festival on Oct. 29, one day before its wide theatrical release begins on Oct. 30.
Turturro is an Emmy Award-winning and Golden Globe-nominated actor, writer and director, Variety noted in its lineup announcement. His screen credits include Do the Right Thing, cited by the Miami New Times among the roles for which he is best known.
The festival has now published its full programme for this year's GEMS edition, according to the Miami Film Festival. The Turturro conversation is listed as one of its centrepiece events.
For fans, this means two chances to catch him in Miami. One night for the new film. One night for the career story behind it.
