Liz Harris lines up two film scores for November release

Liz Harris, who records as Grouper, will release music written for two short films about water on 27 November via Kranky.
The record is called Music for Two Films About Water, and it collects scores for two aquatic shorts: We Exhale by Tanja Engelberts and Constellation by Takashi Makino, Pitchfork reported.
Harris has shared the second of the two pieces, “Untitled (from Constellation),” ahead of the release. The composition runs 21 minutes.
The album contains two long instrumental tracks. Track one is “Untitled (from We Exhale).” Track two is “Untitled (from Constellation).”
The films start from very different places. Engelberts’ We Exhale looks at how people have reshaped the Rhône River through damming, channelling and pollution. Makino’s Constellation is a meditation on the dreamlike qualities of water, according to Stereogum.
Harris built both scores from layers of mellotron, tape loops, Wurlitzer electric piano and field recordings. A mellotron is a keyboard that plays back recorded tape sounds. Field recordings are sounds captured outside the studio.
What makes this release different is the billing. Harris has been making music as Grouper since 2005. This is her first record released under her own name.
Kranky will handle the release on 27 November. Further details on formats and pre-orders are expected from the label.
