Tang Contemporary Art has shut its Hong Kong gallery as artists and creditors press claims for money owed.

Two reports published on October 8, 2026 linked the closure to unpaid bills. The shutdown involved nonpayment issues, according to ARTnews. The gallery's Wong Chuk Hang branch on Hong Kong Island faces accusations of unpaid artist fees and legal action, according to The Art Newspaper.

Wong Chuk Hang is an industrial district that has become a gallery quarter. The reports place the dispute there. That is distinct from the Hong Kong address still carried on the gallery's official contact page: H Queen's, 80 Queen's Road Central, Hong Kong, in the city's Central district.

That contact page also lists a Hong Kong telephone number, +852 2682 8289, and gives opening hours as Tuesday to Saturday, 11am to 7pm, closed on public holidays. The gallery's homepage still identifies its network as four cities: Beijing, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Seoul.

Listings on the gallery website point to activity outside Hong Kong. They include 'A Place We Share', advertised as running September 12 to October 18, 2026 at its Bangkok Space in Thailand, and 'Andrea Galvani: The Lost Garden of Heaven', advertised as running August 29 to October 10, 2026 in Seoul, South Korea. A third listing is 'Zhang Hui × He An', advertised as running August 29 to October 16, 2026 at Beijing 1st Space in mainland China.

The Hong Kong space had continued to programme new work this year. The gallery announced a solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist Kila Cheung, due to open at 4:00 PM on May 30, 2026 at its Wong Chuk Hang location.

The October 8 reports describe a closure, not a relocation. They do not set out a repayment timetable. The website listings, which carry no publication date, remain the clearest public record of what the gallery is still advertising elsewhere.
