Paramount Developing Live-Action Cyberpunk 2077 Film

Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action film set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 8 October 2026. Live action means the film will use real actors and physical sets rather than animation.
The film is based on Cyberpunk 2077, the action-adventure role-playing game from CD Projekt Red. In a role-playing game, the player takes on a character and makes choices that shape the story. The report puts sales of the game at more than 40 million copies.
The story centres on Night City, the fictional city where the game takes place. Players follow V, a mercenary outlaw searching for a one-of-a-kind implant that holds the key to immortality. Actor Keanu Reeves appears in the game as Johnny Silverhand.
The numbers are large. The related title Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty has sold 15 million copies, according to the same report. It features actor Idris Elba as Solomon Reed, a sleeper agent. A sleeper agent is a spy who lives undercover until called into action.
Night City is also the setting for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a series made for Netflix. A dystopia is an imagined society marked by hardship and control, and the series stays inside that future. It offers another entry point to help newcomers familiarise themselves with the world.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is attached to the film alongside the franchise rights holder. He is known as a producer of the Transformers films, according to Variety. His credit links the project to one of Hollywood's long-running action franchises.
What makes this stand out is the size of the audience that already knows these streets and names. Tens of millions of players have explored Night City through the game and its spin-offs. The film now brings that established world to cinema screens.
