Mark Zuckerberg returns to cinemas on Oct. 9, played this time by Jeremy Strong.

Aaron Sorkin wrote and directed The Social Reckoning, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film has been shown to members of the film press, Variety reported on Oct. 5.

Strong takes over the role of the Facebook co-founder. Mikey Madison plays Frances Haugen and Jeremy Allen White plays Jeff Horwitz, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

Haugen is a former Facebook product manager turned whistleblower, a person who reports wrongdoing inside an organisation, and the author of The Power of One, published in 2023. Horwitz is a former Wall Street Journal tech reporter and the author of Broken Code, published in 2023. Sorkin met with both of them to conduct research for the film.

The change at the top extends behind the camera. David Fincher did not return to direct because his Netflix deal precluded him. Jesse Eisenberg declined an offer to return as Zuckerberg.

He said no. Fincher read it first.

Fincher was the first person to read Sorkin’s script for the new film and called it “nitroglycerin,” The Hollywood Reporter reported. The cast also includes Portia Doubleday as a character named Kayleigh, in her first acting role since 2020.
