Deafheaven surprise-release three-track EP At Work in the Fields of the Bomb

Deafheaven have released a surprise EP titled At Work in the Fields of the Bomb. The three-track set was confirmed on 9 October 2026, according to Pitchfork. It is the band's first new music since the album Lonely People with Power.
An EP, or extended play, is shorter than a full album and usually groups a handful of songs together. That format makes this a compact follow-up. It arrives without the longer build-up that often comes with an album campaign.
Three songs. No extra build-up. The title and concept come from photographer Robert Del Tredici's 1987 book of the same name, which documented the production of nuclear weapons. Deafheaven have taken both the name and the starting idea for the EP from that book.
The new EP features no guest artists. That is a change from Lonely People with Power, which included appearances from Interpol's Paul Banks and Boy Harsher's Jae Matthews. This time the credits list Deafheaven alone.
The release lands as the band prepares for time on the road. Deafheaven will spend the rest of 2026 on tour with Mastodon, according to Pitchfork. No additional dates or venues were detailed in the announcement.
For fans, this means new material to hear close to the live shows. A three-track release is quick to learn in full. It also gives concertgoers something fresh from the period after Lonely People with Power to listen for in the set.
