Grimes has shared “Accelerando,” the first song from her AI-inspired album “Psy Opera.” Pitchfork reported the release on 9 October 2026. The wait lasted six years.

She told Interview that she had recorded a new album built around artificial intelligence under that title. The conversation was with science-fiction author Nnedi Okorafor. It appeared in Interview’s Spring 2026 issue, according to Interview. Two other songs expected on the record are “The Light Ages” and “Eve Is Online.”

“Psy Opera” follows 2020’s “Miss Anthropocene.” That gap makes it her first album in six years. It will also be her first release on her own label, Nazgul Recording LLC, after parting ways with Columbia. Releasing through her own label means she is putting the record out herself, rather than through a major company, and keeps control of the release.

A press release for “Accelerando” sets out what the album will address. It says the record covers everything Grimes witnessed as “a woman of history” during her hiatus from pop music, a break from releasing and performing. That list includes the AI debate, immoral wars, a bad ex, looksmaxers and the importance of religion.

There was an early signal of the return. Grimes shared a trailer titled “Eve Is Online” for the new album, which The Fader reported on 8 October 2026. A trailer, a short video preview, introduced the project’s title and mood. She has also invited fans to join an Instagram channel called “Eve Is Online.” The channel shares its name with one of the songs expected on the album.

The album follows her open stance on voice technology. She previously offered 50 percent royalties to anyone who created a successful AI-generated song using her voice. Royalties are ongoing payments made when music is sold, streamed or otherwise used, so the offer would split that income equally between Grimes and the maker.

For fans, this means a clear entry point after a long quiet period. “Accelerando” is the first music to arrive. It ends a period in which she had spoken about the record but had not shared music from it, and the track titles, trailer and channel give listeners a way to follow the larger album as it unfolds.
