Ryan Hall calls time on 20-year career as one of league's great finishers

Ryan Hall has retired from rugby league at the age of 38 after 20 years in the professional game.
The Leeds Rhinos winger — the speedster who finishes moves out wide — said the time was right to hang up his boots. He bows out with 358 tries in 540 career appearances, according to BBC Sport.
Hall played 24 times in his final season in 2026 and scored 10 tries as Leeds finished second in Super League. His last appearance came in their play-off semi-final defeat by Warrington at Headingley, under head coach Brad Arthur.
His story started at Leeds. Hall made his senior debut in May 2007 and became a central figure in the club’s golden era. He won six Grand Finals, Super League’s title decider, and two Challenge Cups, the sport’s historic knockout competition.
He left Leeds for Australia’s NRL, the top club competition down under, after the 2018 season to join Sydney Roosters. It proved a tough stint. He failed to score in 11 appearances across two seasons.
Hull KR brought him back to Super League for the 2021 campaign. He scored 62 tries in 102 games for the Robins before returning to Headingley for the 2025 season, then going again in 2026.
Hall was just as prolific for England. He scored 39 tries in 45 appearances. He was part of the side that lost the 2017 World Cup final to Australia.
He will stay at Leeds in a commercial role. Fans will get one more glimpse of him in a Rhinos shirt, with a cameo appearance against Hull FC in a pre-season friendly in January as part of a testimonial.
What makes this stand out is longevity allied to finishing power. Hall retires as Super League’s second-highest scorer with 274 tries, seven behind Leigh winger Josh Charnley. Twenty years on. Still scoring.
