Jimmy Adams to leave Hampshire after 25 years for Tasmania role

Jimmy Adams will leave Hampshire after more than 25 years as a player and coach to take up a new role with Tasmania in Australia, BBC Sport reported on 9 October 2026.
It is a parting with real history behind it. Adams was born in Winchester and made his Hampshire debut in 2001. He stayed ever since.
The numbers tell the playing story. Adams retired in 2018 after 462 appearances for Hampshire across all formats. He scored 19,723 runs for the county.
He led the side too. Adams captained Hampshire between 2012 and 2015. As a player, he won five trophies with the club.
Coaching kept him at the Utilita Bowl, Hampshire's home ground in Southampton, for another eight years. He was named lead batting coach of the Hampshire Hawks, the county's T20 side, in 2022. That same season the Hawks won the men's Vitality Blast, England and Wales's main county T20 competition.
For supporters, this means saying goodbye to a familiar face in two dugouts. Adams the opener who built long innings. Adams the coach who shaped the next line of batters. Tasmania gets that whole bank of experience next.
