Grant Morrison is taking charge of James Bond in comics.

IDW Publishing has partnered with Ian Fleming Publications to produce all-new James Bond comic-book adventures, with Morrison tapped to write the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter on 9 October 2026. The plan is for original stories created for comics. It gives 007 a new starting point in print.

The first mission already has a name. The opening story will be a six-part adventure titled Sunbreaker, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Sunbreaker is the title of that initial storyline, not the title of the series itself. A story arc simply means one long tale serialised across several issues, so readers will look for the Bond series first and then for Sunbreaker as the opening tale within it.

Morrison is promising a full Bond toolkit. The run will feature new cars, new gadgets and a new ultimate villain ripped straight from the headlines, the writer said, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. That covers the familiar moving parts. Customised cars and clever gadgets sit beside Bond, while a headline-inspired villain gives him someone to chase.

Two central details are still to be filled in. No artist had been attached to the series and no release date had been set at the time of the announcement, The Hollywood Reporter reported. In comics, the writer shapes the plot and dialogue while the artist shapes how it all looks, from faces to car chases. That art hire will do much to define the tone of the book.

For fans, this means the shape is clear but the wait continues. The publisher is set, the writer is set, and the opening run is mapped at six parts. The look of the series, its start date and the identity of that new villain are still to come. When those pieces land, readers will know how soon Bond returns to the comics shelf.
