Prince Harry reunites with cousin George McCorquodale at Leicester rugby match

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, turned a Friday night at the rugby into a surprise family reunion.
Harry watched Leicester Tigers play Gloucester Rugby at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium in Leicester on 9 October. He was joined during the outing by his cousin George McCorquodale, Hello! Magazine reported.
George is the son of Lady Sarah McCorquodale, elder sister of Diana, Princess of Wales. That makes him Harry's first cousin on his mother's side, part of the Spencer family rather than the Windsor side most often seen in public.
It was the first time Harry had been seen publicly with a family member since arriving in Britain in August. The Leicester trip had been billed as a solo night out, Hello! Magazine reported. He attended the match on 9 October 2026.
The two families know each other well. Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, attended the 2018 wedding of George's sister Celia McCorquodale. Celia married George Woodhouse at St Andrew's Church in Stoke Rochford, Lincolnshire, with Harry and Meghan among the guests.
Rugby is familiar ground for Harry. He previously served as patron of the Rugby Football Union, the governing body for rugby union in England. He gave up the role after stepping back from working royal life, but he has kept the connection as a fan.
Last month he warmly greeted former England star James Haskell during an interview linked to the Invictus Games. The Leicester match continued that thread. Short walk. Big crowd. Club rugby under lights.
The outing came weeks after Harry's return to Britain after six years away, Reuters reported. His first public appearance after that return came on a Thursday in September 2026.
Rugby has brought royal relatives together before. In October 2019, Harry was set to reunite with Mike Tindall in Japan while supporting England in the Rugby World Cup final. Tindall, a former England rugby union player who married Zara Tindall, the daughter of the Princess Royal, was in Japan for the tournament with his wife.
What makes this stand out is how low-key it was. No announcement. No palace balcony. Just two cousins side by side at a domestic league match.
For fans, this means a rare look at Harry's maternal family. The McCorquodales keep largely out of public view. On Friday in Leicester, they did not.
